Getting Married: Elizabeth + Patrick

We are just in love with the Kate Spade inspired wedding of Elizabeth and Patrick. When Elizabeth and her family came to us, they were thinking of bold stripes and bright colors to reflect  the couples fun and vibrant style. We could not have been more excited to begin designing the space, which was the renovated Patrick F. Taylor Library in the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. It just so happens that Elizabeth’s father was one of the architects who restored the library to it’s stunningly beautiful state.

Elizabeth walked down the aisle in these fabulous Kate Spade shoes. What bride doesn’t love a little glitter?

The Bride is as talented as she is darling! She designed her custom invitation which were letter-pressed and featured gilded siding.

We also worked with Elizabeth and Patrick to create the bridal party’s ceremony florals. The bride held a stark white bouquet which looked lovely in comparison to the bright colors of the reception centerpieces.

Guests were welcomed to the reception with some colorful chalkboard signage by the endlessly talented Kelly Draws.

The stone fireplace in the library held a floral wreath which mirrored the color pattern of the reception. Along with wreath, we created an arrangement for the hearth which was filled with variegated pittosporum and a medallion of colorful florals. The intimate ceremony of family and close friends was incredibly heartfelt and authentic.

We decorate the reception space with twinkle lights to give a glow above the tables and added charming over-sized paper lanterns above the dance floor to create a playful vibe.

The table centerpieces were a true homage to the words of Kate Spade, “live colorfully.” We mixed up the arrangements with groupings of sleek gold vases and mercury accents.

We added a touch of lisianthus and ranunculus to the beautiful cake created by Pure Cake.

The menu that we created with Elizabeth and Patrick featured some fun and laid-back items to reflect the couple’s style. Items such a pickle fries with sriracha-ranch dipping sauce and mini grilled cheese over warm tomato basil soup were a big hit with the guests!

The Groom’s cake was replaced with peanut butter and strawberry topped cheesecake bites. Which made a gorgeous display for the cake table.

Getting Married: Jennifer + Blake

We’re officially in the thick of summer in Louisiana and that means hot days and nights. Without a doubt, July can be brutal! But, we’re  cooling off this week thinking about Jennifer + Blake’s winter wedding at the boutique French Quarter venue, Hotel Mazarin.

This January ceremony was held in the hotel’s courtyard, which is home to a stunning up-lit fountain. We covered the fountain in an eclectic mix of glass vases and kept the glow going with white column candles.

Jennifer + Blake wanted a floral backdrop for their nuptials so we worked with their vision to create floral arrangements full of hydrangea and delphiniums housed in our silver trumpet vases.




A stark white ranunculus with silver foliage made the perfect boutonniere for the groom.


And, we used hydrangea and a mix of delicate ranunculus to give Jennifer a sweet and traditional bridal bouquet.




Guests were welcomed to the ceremony with a photo frame to sign and wish the couple well, a birdcage to drop their cards off, and this fragrant white arrangement.


The bride wanted to save her bouquet – and we love a true nod to tradition! So, we created a cake topper that later doubled as a toss bouquet for her gals.



It was such a pleasure being a part of Jennifer + Blake’s elegant wedding. We wish them all the best in their future together!

Carats & Cake Feature: Kristen + Michael’s Wedding

Carats & Cake Feature

We are so happy to be featured for the first time in Carats & Cake! If you haven’t heard of this site, you should absolutely check it out as it’s the self-proclaimed “premiere online resource to hire local wedding vendors.” What we love about this site is that it’s equal parts gorgeous photographs and list of vendors who facilitated the subjects of those gorgeous photographs. (By the way, these stunning photos were taken by Greer Gattuso of Greer G. Photography.)

The wedding of Kristen + Michael Kohn were among Carats & Cake’s Real Weddings this month! And, we were so pleased that we could cater their special day.


Their menu consisted of Savory Watermelon Goat Cheese Skewers as a passed hors d’oeuvre among some New Orleans favorites like our Muffaletta Paninis and Crab Cakes.

The wedding took place at the acclaimed event venue Race + Religious. Their courtyards are the epitome of New Orleans lassez-faire and made the perfect back drop for our buffets and build-your-own Risotto Station.


We absolutely loved working with this happy couple. I mean, aren’t they just adorable?


So, cheers to Kristen + Michael! We wish them all the best.

Green Wedding Shoes Feature: Sonia + Cody’s Wedding


We are thrilled that Sonia + Cody’s wedding is featured on Green Wedding Shoes this week! It was such a pleasure to work with clients who are so charming (and talented!) We’re hoping that you’ll get to see Cody’s design work on the “Mermaid Bar” in part two of the feature. And all of that gorgeous photography, is by Ariel Renae Photography. It must take one to know one. Sonia, does some gorgeous photography herself and chose Ariel and her team for their special day. The proof is in the pictures.


We collaborated with the Sonia + Cody on a whimsical menu which included passed items such as savory cotton candy chicken skewers and dolce like caramel dipped lady apples and flavored salted popcorn.


Of course, no New Orleans menu is complete without fresh shucked oysters and oysters rockefeller.



At our first meeting we knew that with Sonia + Cody we were working with some serious foodies and we couldn’t have been happier. The seated dinner menu included some items like grilled pear gorgonzola, penne alla vodka, and blackened red fish.

United Way’s 15th Annual “Got Gumbo?” Cook-off

This was our first year participating in the United Way’s annual “Got Gumbo?” Cook-off, and I can safely say that this won’t be the last time that we throw our hat in the ring! In addition to good drinks, lively music, and enough gumbo options to overwhelm even the heartiest of appetites, the proceeds from the event help fund a fantastic cause.

Palate New Orleans provided portions of seafood gumbo to over 400 attendees and decorated a lovely Louisiana bayou themed table- complete with pirogues, crab nets, oyster shells and irises. We ended the night with a second place finish in the Best Seafood Gumbo category.

All in all, it was a fantastic night. But, our Chef, Walker Geoffray, has one competitive spirit! So, I’m sure next year will be one for the books. Make sure not to miss us at the next annual Got Gumbo cook-off and support a fantastic cause, The United Way.

Race & Religious is a gorgeous New Orleans venue that features eclectic decor with a European feel. We’ve had a long time relationship with this stunning venue and we are so pleased each and every time that we have the opportunity to work in the space! Viva Las Vegas! Debutante Party

Palate New Orleans was thrilled to be a part of the Las Vegas themed debutante party of Caroline Drennan and Sage Laborde. Bang Bang Lobster and Rack of Lamb was served to the VIP guests pre-party. We started off the beginning of the night with passed Rough Cut Tuna Nachos and Chilean Seabass. However, our favorite part of the night may have been our Seafood & Steak Savory Martini Bar. Taking a note from the City of Lights, our “bartenders” put on a show while shaking up a delicious mix of ingredients, poured in a martini glass which was rimmed with spice and herbs and garnished with a pickled okra or pepper. Among the other items served were Pork Tenderloin au Provence with Mushroom Risotto and New Orleans Steak Frite with Truffle Brabant Potatoes. The curtain call of the night was our Sirloin Burger and Grilled Pimento Cheese.

Palate New Orleans for Viva Las Vegas Debutante Party!

Laura Hooper Calligraphy Workshop

Have you ever been to a wedding where a menu or welcome sign catches your eye? And you think, what a lovely detail!

Well, Laura Hooper Calligraphy specializes in the lovely details and we couldn’t agree more with that sentiment. So, when Elyse Skansi of Tying The Knot Wedding Coordination reached out to us about getting involved in Laura’s upcoming workshop in New Orleans, we were thrilled!



Laura creates gorgeous calligraphy- wedding invitations, place cards, hand drawn maps, and signage of all types.

Greer Gattuso of Greer G Photography hosted the event at her beautiful studio near downtown New Orleans. The white walls and bright lighting were the perfect clean backdrop to all of the event’s unique facets.


Palate New Orleans provided some small bites, refreshments, and decorated the table with local foliage. Below are a few of our photos from the workshop. But, we’re looking forward to seeing the photos Greer will be posting in the near future!

Palate New Orleans Website Launch

After months of talking layout, design, and content, we are so incredibly pleased to announce the launch of Palate New Orleans’ new website! Our new home on the web gives potential clients a better idea of the services that we offer (some new and exciting!) and gives everyone the opportunity to get to know who we are as a company. We just love fostering new relationships with people we meet in the event business- clients and vendors alike! And, we consider many of our clients dear friends and keep in touch well after their event date comes and goes. Check-out our “About” section which (will soon!) tell a little bit about each of the creative minds that make up Palate New Orleans. We’ll share what we do each and every day and also chat about what we’re doing when we’re not at the office, in the kitchen, or on-site.

Our “Event Creation” section gives you an overview of the creative process that we go through to make your vision come to life! And, if you’re a bride or groom, don’t forget to browse our “Weddings” section which provides sample menus and talks about our additional event design services such as floral, lighting, and décor!
