At Palate New Orleans, we are known for executing large and/or intimate, out-of-the-box events with years of expertise in catering, planning, floral designing and decorating, but one particular part of our company that shouldn’t be forgotten, is our very own Glenn Vatshell’s handmade pottery.
We pride ourselves in having the greatest, one-of-a-kind vessels to showcase beautiful floral arrangements as centerpieces or stand-alone decor.
Glenn started making pottery in high school and, ultimately, wanted to become a sculptor. He excelled in art class and won every art award in school — except for one! An apprenticeship was ready for him in Norway and before he could follow through, while on vacation in St. John, a certain classical French cuisine enchanted him to the point he “got all taken up by food” in the end.
Glenn knew that this was his calling.
Back in 2015, Glenn revisited his passion again and began making pottery once more. This time, incorporating it into Palate New Orleans.
“They’re like children. They need to stay with you a little bit before they leave you”
-Glenn Vatshell about his creations
As a natural early bird, Glenn begins his day working in the office at Palate New Orleans and heads on over to his studio in the afternoon. He treats it as a therapeutic time to think about work from afar while working with his hands to create something very organic. Glenn describes his pieces as “having a life of their own. Starting off as one thing and finishing as something completely different. No rhyme or reason.”
